CUBEの英語の授業の一つである「国際社会と日本」では、日本(過去と現代)と世界の中での日本の役割に対して客観的かつ論理的な見方を学習しながら、国際経済、政治と文化を理解するための授業です。特に、個人、地域、国家、超国家の中での自分自身をより理解するために、国際化、地域化、異文化理解、異文化感性、多文化主義、アイデンティティを探求していきます。
授業は主に英語で行われ、リーディングの課題や授業外研究活動が日本語と英語で行われます。

この授業内で課された課題とそれに対する学生の意見・回答を紹介いたします。

In Week Four of our Global Society & Japanese Identity (国際社会と日本) class this semester, students were given the following task. What would you add?

(1) Discussion/Critical Thinking – Discuss how the topics from weeks 1-3 are related to our other studies at CUBE. Specifically, why should students in a management program learn about identity, global society, intercultural communication, diversity, total culture vs. subculture, etc.?

(2) Application – After critically discussing the above topic, write a collaborative short blurb titled “Why we study culture at CUBE.” One person should write, but every member should include their ideas. Write in Japanese first.

ネイティブの先生の授業があり直接異文化を学べる機会があるから。日本自体が勝手にグローバル化しており、それに対応していかないといけないから。グループワークの機会が多く、他人（日本人含）と関わることが多いため、異文化理解力を持つ必要がある。自分にとっての当たり前は他人にとっての当たり前ではないから。海外に行きたいから異文化理解力を身に着ける必要がある。紛争等の国際問題解決に異文化理解力が必要だから。マネジメントコースの学生は将来ビジネスをする人が多い。だから相手（ターゲット）のトータルカルチャーとサブカルチャーを理解する必要がある。

Because there are classes from native teachers and there is an opportunity to learn different cultures directly. Japan itself is globalizing. We have to deal with it. Since there are many opportunities for group work and many are involved with other people (including Japanese), it is necessary to have cross-cultural understanding. Our common sense is different between others, so we should have the ability of cultural understanding. We want to go abroad, so we need to acquire the ability to understand different cultures. Also, we should learn different cultures because cross-cultural understanding is required to resolve international issues such as conflicts. Many management course students will do business in the future. So, we need to understand the total culture and subculture of the other person.

他文化を理解することで、その国に行っても恥を書かないように役立てるため。
多文化を理解することによって、自分の個性を見い出すことが出来る。
多文化は海外の文化に対しての概念だけではなく自分の身の回りに起こる事なので異文化を理解することでより良い人間関係を築くことができる。
文化とは合意ではなく受け入れることに重要さがある。
海外の人と文化を共有する際、自分の国について聞かれたときに紹介できるようにするため。

It’ll be useful when we go to foreign countries. We can find our character. Many cultures are not only foreign countries’, but also our happening belongings, so we can make good friendships by learning from them.
Even though we cannot agree with other cultures, we can accept other cultures without agreeing.

価値観と知識の獲得面において、多文化を理解することは重要だと考える。例えば就職の際には、企業選びにおける価値観のすり合わせや、グローバル化する社会の中に対応するために役立ち、留学などを経験する場合には、異なった文化圏、言語圏に身を置くため現地の文化を理解することは、コミュニケーションをとる上でも非常に大きな意味を持つと考える。また、海外の文化を知り、価値観を知ることで、改めて日本の文化やその価値観、良さに気付くことができる。

1．異なった文化や考えを学ぶことで、自分自身にそれらを取り入れることができ、視野を広げ自己成長につながる
2．将来、海外の人と触れ合う機会が増えると思うので、今のうちに文化の違いを知っておくことは将来的に役に立つ
3．CUBEにはいろんな国の先生やそれぞれ違う生徒がたくさんいるので、文化や習慣、価値観の違いがあることを知ることで相互理解が高まる。
4．人種差別が世界中で問題になっている昨今、この授業を通して自分たちが差別する側にならないようにするために、文化の違い価値観の違いをしることが必要である。

1, As we learn about different cultures and ideas, we are able to incorporate them into our own, which broadens our horizons and leads to personal growth.
2,  As there will be more opportunities to come into contact with people from other countries in the future, it will be useful to know the differences in culture now for the future.
3, At CUBE, there are many different nationalities and students who have different cultures. By learning about the differences in their cultures, habits, and values, mutual understanding is enhanced.
4, Racism has become a major issue in the world today, and CUBE will help

・文化を知ってないと、海外に行った時にギャップを感じてしまうため
・将来海外で働く際に外国人の文化を知っておくことで寄り添える
・常識が日本と海外で違うので、礼儀やマナー違反にあたるため
・グローバル化が進んでいるため、互いのコミュニケーションを知っておくことで相互理解できる
・海外と比べ日本はまだ多文化社会への意識は低いが、将来的にはより多文化が当たり前になると思われるため

・The common sense is different from each country, so we should observe each country’s manner.
・When you work in a foreign country in the future, you can understand each other by knowing other cultures.

・Japanese people are lower than other countries such as Australia. However, it is necessary  that an inculture-society become common sense in the future.

・多文化を理解することによって、他の人の意見を理解しやすくなりその場の議論や会議がスムーズに進む。

日本人が海外に行ったときに、アイデンティティやグローバル社会、異文化コミュニケーション、ダイバーシティなどを学んでおくことで、コミュニケーションなどにおいて面倒、軋轢や摩擦などを回避することが出来るため。また、お互いの価値観の違いを埋めて、それを共有することで自分の持っていない特性を補い互いに支えることができるため。そして、異なる文化を深く知ることで、自分の文化の本質が見えてきて、世界に関することに対して、偏見や先入観を取り除くことができ、視野が広がっていくから。

When Japanese go abroad, if learning identity, global society, cross-cultural communication, diversity, etc. it is possible to avoid  getting troubles, conflicts, and friction in communication. Also, by filling in the differences in values and sharing them, we can supplement the characteristics that we do not have and support each other. In addition, by getting to know different cultures deeply, you can see the essence of your own culture, remove prejudice and prejudice about the world, and broaden your horizons.

グローバル化が進んでいて外国人との交流が多くなるから他国のことを理解しないといけない。
–近年は海外進出をしようと試みている日系企業が多いから他国の人と取引をする際に海外文化をインプットしておかないとビジネスが上手く行かなくなる。
–他の文化を理解することによって日本の良さを改めて理解できるから
–海外に行った際に失礼の無いようにするために他国の文化を理解する。
–他の文化を知ることで自分自身の視野を広げる。
⁻固定概念をなくすことで海外文化とのバリアをできる限り少なくできる。
CUBEで英語で外国人から学ぶからこそ肌で異文化を感じることができる。

-Recently, Japan is going to be globalized so that we have to understand other cultures, most Japanese companies also attempt to expand the global market.
-we can recognize how Japanese culture is great by learning other cultures.
-Not to be rude when we stay in another culture, we have to learn other cultures.
-To spread our visibly, leaning culture is a good way to do that.
